HOW TO SAVE ON FUEL

Welcome to CARFACTS "How To Save On Fuel" ...find all the information you need on gas prices, fuel economy, and fuel saving tips!!!

I think one of the most important things facing us as a nation right now is what to do about fuel prices and how to conserve fuel.

Here at the Carfacts site you will learn how to conserve fuel, and with the help of the carfacts-repair page be able to do a lot of the work yourself and save.

With gas over $2.50 a gallon and no end in site.Everyone is wanting to blame the large oil companies or the President for the prices, but really the blame falls on us the user.We waste fron 20% to 40% of our fuel because we have become very spoiled and waste almost as much fuel as we use.

I'm not saying that there is no greed in the large oil companies, but the greed for the almighty dollar is everywhere.Depending on where you live,State and Federal taxes run from thirty cents to fifty cents a gallon on gasoline, the rest is for production, transportation, and merchandising then trickels down to five cents to twenty five cents to the dealer.

The OPEC oil countries control how much crude we get and thats what controls the price we pay at the pump, they have raised their crude prices almost $20.00 per barrel in the past few months resulting in our high price at the pump. They blame world demand for the increase, which is part of it but not all. It's mre like the get it while you can attitude that seems to run rampant through out the world. These countries are holding us hostage and making a statement that they can control our economy by bring us to a halt or slowing us down to the point of going into a ressesion.

Now it is time for us as a people to stand up in unity and not wait for Government to try and put a patch on things or appease those countries.

This may hurt a little for awhile but in the long run it will work out in our favor and you will feel better about yourself.

These are simple things you can do that will help your gas mileage, and if we can get a few million car owners to do this we can save several MILLION gallons of gasoline a day.

Start with your vehicle.Make sure you keep your tire pressure at the correct pressure (very important) get a tire gage(about a dollar)and check pressures often as pressure will go up and down depending on how hot or how cold it is(drops when cold-builds up when it's hot).

Next make sure your vehicle is running at peak performance, it has probably dropped considerably since you bought it. Most manufactures set a time for oil changes, transmission service and tune ups, these are not completely correct. In most cases your vehicle will need service more often. If you drive a lot in town carbons build up and hurts the effincency of your engine. The speeds we drive on the freeways now tend to burn plugs faster and deteriate wiring due to the higher heat vehicles run now.

So keep tire pressure up,keep your engine clean with proper oil and filter changes to match your driving habits. Keep your engine tuned, plugs, wires and filters(air, oil and fuel)changed on a regular basis.

Use a good oil and a good filter, try using a synthetic or synthetic blend as they let your engine run with less friction and this keeps heat and wear down.I prefer CASTROL Syntec Blend for older engines (70,000 miles or more) and Syntec for a new engine. These oils cost a little more but the savings in fuel and engine wear is worth it.Next clean your fuel system. I stumbbled on a product that has worked very well for me. It is made by "LUCAS" and you can get it at most auto stores and even WalMart. It is called "LUCAS Upper Cylinder Lubricant".It costs around $3.50 at most stores and will do a super job of cleaning injectors and upper engine. You will find it in the additive section of most automotive stores.Fuel system cleaners run from $2.50 to $14.95 or more, and if you take your vehicle to a dealer it can run upwards of $150.00 or more to have your injectors cleaned.

I had a vehicle with over 100,000 miles on it and the injectors got plugged and was running very bad,so I tried a couple of the more expensive products (more is better, thats how were are programed) and they didn't work, so I thought I was going to have to have the injectors replaced at a cost of over $500.00 with me doing the work. A garage will want to replace them all 4,6 or 8 at around $125.00 each plus labor. So I seen this bottle made by LUCAS (an old name in automotive products) so I thought for $3.50 what do I have to loose I put the bottle in my gas tank and drove around 50 miles and the engine started running better and after about 125 miles of driving the miss in my engine was gone.I removed the injectors and looked at them and the were clean at the spray tips with very little carbon in them.I now add a bottle about every 10,000 miles.I have done the same in some friends vehicles and told some of the dealerships I go to about it,some have tried it with the same results, they won't do it often as it hurts there injector clean and replace business.

The above are some of the things you can do to your vehicle to help mileage. It should help between 2 and 5 miles per gallon depending on your vehicle and driving style.

This is the part that may hurt! If you drive 70 mph on the freeway try cutting back to 60-63 mph (55-57 ideal) this will help a lot and you will save more fuel than you will loose in time.Instead of those 4-5 trips you make around town, plan your day each morning and combine those trips and try to cut them in half.If it takes 2 gallons of fuel to do your dailey trips and you combine them and save 1 gallon thats 5 to 7 gallons a week, and if you prepared your car right you will save at least another 1-2 gallons a week thats 7-9 gallons you have saved and it really didn't hurt that bad.

If only a million drivers done this that would save upwards of 9,000,000 gallons of gasoline a week. A plus to this also is if gasoline is $2.50 a gallon and you average saving,say,6 gallons of gas a week you just put $15.00 back in your pocket. And thats more than you would have if you paid $1.90 a gallon for gas driving a dirty running engine, making excessive trips and drive 70 mph every where you go.

I know that a large percent of the people will not conserve no matter what happens, a recent poll shows that the #1 thing of people asked "what is the most important thing you look for when pulling into a station to fill up" was that most of them were thinking how quick can I get my gas a go,#2 was what they had in the convenient store and #3 was the price of gas.

I know this must be true as on my travels on my job I see lower gas prices at stations that do not have a super big convenience store have fewer customers than the ones with large stores inside and higher gas prices

All of the above tips can help you anytime not just when prices are going up, so even if prices decline to a more normal price you can still save and conserve.

Pass these tips along to everyone you know. To make things happen it only takes one person "YOU".
